Mood board- classic rock

Mood board about the genre i have chosen to do my magazine on, i have got a variety of classical rock bands and instruments, this weill influence how i want my magazine to look.

Prelim task contents page

This is my contents page for my prelim task of my school magazine. I kept the same colour scheme as the front cover as it is eye catching and easy to read. I like the layout of my contents page because it is spaced out well and easy to find everything. I changed the contrast and brightness in the pictures i used to make them seem nice and eye catching, i do not feel that this page is over crowded but is not too empty. It is a good representation of how i want my actual final piece to look.

Prelim task- School magazine front cover

This is my prelim task school magazine front cover. i decided to go for a moody darker looking look as this is what i want my final piece to look like. I chose the yellow colours because i had inspiration from a NME Nirvana special addition, i thought it looked really good and decided to make my magazine loosly based on that. I thought it was a good idea to base my prelim task on how i actually want my magazine to look, as you can see i have usedf photoshop to make the picture look dark and moody.

news letter evaluation

As part of my Prelimary task i need to analyse a school newsletter so i roughly know what i want my own to look like. I will analyse the Deyes High school news letter, I will discuss many things such as, the different fonts, colour, images, house style, target audience.

The font they use on this new school news letter is Calibri (body) and it is size 14 text this is a good choice this makes it easy for the reader and it makes it clear, having any other font could make the newsletter look less professional or not as good. Also, the newsletter stands out and is eye catching because it is a white back ground with black text, this makes it clear for the reader.  The house style colour which is used throughout the letter is blue and red this is the colour of Deyes High so they use it within the letter this is a good use of House St lye because it shows that it is officially from Deyes High school. This means that it is very recognisable to the public as having the Deyes High school colours will make it instantly recognisable.

The text is mainly centred down the page show it is all the same it is not randomly scattered across the page, also the use of images is good they have relevant pictures to the topic and they do not overload it, they have just put enough in for the reader to see and looks good.  The layout of it it has a bold blue and red title at the start of every new topic, once again going with the Deyes High colour scheme.
The target audience for this news letter is mainly aimed at parents because they are looking to let them know exactly what is going on within the school and feed them information, it is set out so that is easy to read and digest the information, but it is also easy for children to read as well to find out more information about their school.

prelimphoto shopped pictures

1.

2.
This is one of my pictures i want to use in my prelim task school magazine. As you can see picture 2 is the original and picture 1 is the one i have edited in Photoshop. I have cropped the picture to make it more focused on the students and significantly changed the brightness and contrast to make it look alot better. I have removed any shadow i do want by using the clone stamp tool to carefully take sections of the picture to fill in where i want. Also i have used to spot healing tool to get rid of any chewing gum and plants on the floor to make it look much better and more professional. I have modified one of the students, as you can see in picture 2 he has blue socks but i have edited it in picture one to have black socks and make him look slightly better dressed for my magazine.

Photoshop pictures

Here is an example of the spot healing brush tool used in photo shop, this is to remove any unwanted things in the picture such as spots on the picture of the boy, this will make him look better in the pictures and make his skin look a lot cleaner. Also as you can see on the picture of the dalmatian, i have removed a lot of the black spots on the dog, this could be used to make something look blank and remove anything that isnt wanted in the picture.

Photoshop pictures

Here is more examples of Photoshop pictures using the clone stamp tool, as you can see in the first picture there is a glass and in the second there is not. This is before and after.

Here is some examples of some work i have done on Photoshop by using the clone stamp and removing certain bottles.  Photo 1 is the original and you can see where i have removed the bottles whilst still making it look good, this took a lot of time and effort.

Camera shots

These are pictures of the shots i want to take whilst completing my prelim task, these are what i am going to involve within my school news letter and how i want them to look with the correct angles and lighting.

Analysed front cover

This is an example of a magazine cover that i have analysed to show what is involved within a front cover of a magazine and what is used to make it look good and professional.

Mock ups

These are some examples of magazine cover mock ups i have done, this gave me a good idea to what to involve in my magazine and how to set it out.

Comments on my pictures so far.

I think the pictures i have got so far seem good, although i still need to take a few more pictures to complete what i need, i also need to do alot of editing and modifying in photoshop. Although after changing them to how i want them in photoshop i should be much happier with what i have got. Some of the pictures are too blury to use although this will be good to explain why i did not choose to use it.

These are a few examples of some of the photos i will choose to use ans some that i will choose to discard during my prelim task. As you can see, some of the photos are either blury or not very appropriate for a newsletter these pictures i will not use. I tried to use a variety of shots in my pictures to get across different angles and views. Some of the photos need to be edited in photoshop to make them look more proffessional and better. I may choose tol retake alot of these photos because of them not being of great quality but for now they have given me a good idea to the angles and positions i want them to be. As you can see in picture 1 although it isnt very blury, the face in one of the participants in the picture is not appropriate and looks silly. Picture 2 is a very good picture and looks like it would fit into a newsletter very well, i may use this picture.

Here is some more examples of some of the pictures i have taken for my prelim task. The selection in this set of pictures seem to be of a better quality that in my photoshoot 1 post. As mentioned in my previous photoshoot post, alot of these pictures need some work on photoshop but i am happy about how they turned out. I think it would be good to use these in my newsletter because i think they give a good representation of the school and i feel i would have alot to say about these pictures. I think the lighting in these pictures is very good, i like picture 1 imparticular as it is very bright and of good quality. Pictures 2 is also one that i want to use because it is a great angle and if you look the person used has a spot, this is a good oppurtunity to usde photoshop to remove it and make him look better.
