Semiotics

Semiotics,is the study of signs and sign processes , indication, designation, likeness, analogymetaphorsymbolism, signification, and communication. Semiotics is closely related to the field of linguistics, which, for its part, studies the structure and meaning of language more specifically. However, as different from linguistics, semiotics studies also non-linguistic sign systems. Semiotics are used throughout society and are seen everyday they do not use words more signs and symbols. Semiotics is often divided into three branches:
  • Semantics: Relation between signs and the things to which they refer to their meaning
  • Syntactics: Relations among signs in formal structures
  • Pragmatics: Relation between signs and the effects they have on the people who use them
Semiotics are very important to get quick meaning across to people for example if we saw a picture of a smiley face we would associate it with happiness, it what the symbols mean that help us associate it to other things. Signs are things that represents something other than itself. i will have to take the idea of semiotics into consideration whilst thinking of my music magazine because it will include the colours and logos i will use including the pictures, this will help how people view my magazine.
